Today we get to meet Georgia! Georgia is from Adelaide and is just about to launch her new business, Meet Rosie. It’s a pretty interesting business selling fantastic clit sucker vibrators ( The Original Rosie). We wanted to get to know her a little bit and see what makes her tick.
Let’s get into it!
What’s your perfect Sunday? (Yes, this is from Hot Fuzz)
It has to be a summer Sunday. Obviously, I’m an Aussie so summer days are my fav! I really like going to the gym so I would either go to the gym in the morning or go indoor rock climbing with my boyfriend. I really like exercising on the weekends, it helps me to feel some sort of accomplishment on the weekend. After that, I’d get a coffee and a brunch out with my boyfriend for a nice chill after the gym.
Then I’d go to the beach, have a swim, hang out with some friends, have that classic beach day. There are a few beaches you can go to here that you can drive on. So, I would love to go to a driving beach and put up a tent, have a few beers that sort of thing. Very chilled! After that probably just get home, play with my cat, watch a movie and go to bed. I like going to bed early (I’m an early riser). That’s my perfect Sunday!
What’s your day job?
I work in e- commerce for a Topper and Wig Company. We’ve got everything, options for girls with full hair loss, like full alopecia. Or for girls who have female pattern baldness, Girls who just want thicker hair, girls who want to change the colour of their hair. That’s what we do, and I really, really love it.
I just feel like there is this business side of me which I get in that job, but I really love helping people. I love making people feel empowered. I think that my day job and my new business go hand in hand with how I feel about them. Because it’s all about empowering women to love themselves and feel themselves. That’s an important part. I just love helping people, I always have. It’s my favourite thing. I just love making people feel the best about themselves as they possibly can.
What business are you starting?
I’m starting Meet Rosie which is a female pleasure company. At the moment the main product we sell will be a clitoral vacuum stimulator (clit sucker vibrators for a more casual term!). The aim of the business is to destigmatize female pleasure as a broad subject by empowering women to harness their own sexuality. Everyone has their time with a vibrator, but everyone also needs the clit sucker to just… level up!
What made you want to sell vibrators?
I don’t know where the original idea came from, I’ve got no clue! But I’ve been thinking about it for years, probably since I was about 20, I’m 23 now. I guess it’s when I actually started realising that men are a bit shit and vibrators are better! I just realised that it’s kind of iconic, all of my friends who know me just think it makes sense that I would do this. I’m really passionate about being a strong fucking woman and I think harnessing your own sexuality really comes into feeling that strength in yourself. Because if you don’t have that aspect, you’re not going to feel like that. That’s how it was for me.
Obviously, there’s asexual people out there and there are people that aren’t interested in sexuality and that’s fine too. But I think with realising that, that’s coming to terms with their own sexuality. I think that everyone’s got their own journey with it and when you come to accept your sexuality that’s when you are strong because you’re true to yourself.
Who are they for?
Anyone who wants one!
I believe that (it actually says it in the packaging) all women deserve a Rosie beside their bed but anyone who wants one deserves one.
Why is self-pleasure important?
I could talk about this subject for hours! All I do is listen to books about it, listen to podcasts, talk about it with my friends. At work, it’s just women and we all talk about pleasure and harnessing your own womanness all the time. I feel like, women are constantly pressured to be selfless. You’ve got to give, give, give. I think that it’s probably time to just take a bit. That’s why I think even if it’s just 10 minutes a day with a vibrator, that’s just going to help you so much. I think women just really don’t accept being selfish and it’s actually a really needed thing in life. Men are allowed to be selfish. If a woman is selfish, they are called a bitch.
I just think self-pleasure is important just to allow women to have some selfish time.
What is your business mission?
To destigmatise female pleasure by empowering women to harness their own sexuality. Also, to empower women to not feel any shame around their needs and desires.
Hardest part about starting this business?
Probably all the nitty gritty stuff that you don’t even think about. I’m not a paperwork person! I think also, because I already work in Ecommerce, I understand how to run a business from face value. Like social media, marketing all those sorts of things. Everything like that came very easily to me. It was actually the stuff that you don’t even think about, lawyers, insurance, taxes. That more nitty gritty stuff. It’s always good to learn new skills, so I am actually enjoying that process of learning. It’s also so important to know all that stuff even if you don’t start a business. I think it’s just not something we are taught in school which I think is really a life staple.
Favourite food?
I love food! Anything Asian. I couldn’t narrow it down to one thing. I could eat Asian food every single day, every single meal. I love it so much.
What’s your favourite film?
I have two, The Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet. Both Baz Luhrmann films. I love his work, it’s amazing.
Best piece of advice for looking after your mental health?
I think my advice needs little bit of background. For me, a lot of my anxiety stemmed from what other people thought of me. Classic girl, fairly young, all of those things. I think that this is a big thing for a lot of women. I read in a book once that, ‘what other people think of you is none of your business’. Just hearing that made me realise, I actually really don’t give a shit what other people think. Because that’s what they want to think and it’s more of a reflection on them than on me.
What do you wish you were good at (but unfortunately you are not!)
l have three things.
Reading actual books. I cannot do it, I cannot sit down and read! I love audio books; I listen to them all the time, but I cannot read actual books. Even if I try to read and I sit down and make time, I forget what I’ve read on the page by the end of the time. It just doesn’t go in, I can’t do it!
Creative writing is really not a strength of mine, I wish it was. It would be really handy.
Cleaning, I’m not very clean
What lights a fire in your belly (Something you are passionate about and you feel you need to speak out on)?
How strong and powerful women actually are. There’s nothing we can’t achieve.
What book would you recommend to our readers?
Women Don’t Owe You Pretty by Florence Given.
I’ve always been a feminist my whole life, but this is the book that really got me going with feminism. It’s definitely a book that I would give to my daughter for her 17th or 18th birthday. But at the same time, I feel like everyone goes through what they go through at those ages for a reason. It really takes that adversity that you go through when you kind of hate yourself a little bit, to really feel the power of loving yourself. I think I read it when I was 21 so two years ago now and that was what made me realise how much of a feminist I am.
Thanks Georgia! It was so nice to meet you and we look forward to the launch of Meet Rosie!
